JULIE ANDREWS (83) After earning a best actress Oscar for Mary Poppins, she starred in The Sound of Music and dozens of other films including The Princess Diaries. She married twice and has three children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
DICK VAN DYKE (93) The amiable chimney sweep appeared in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Dick Tracy and Night at the Museum and is back for a cameo role in Mary Poppins Returns for a “little song and dance’’.
He has four children and seven grandkids and lived with his long-time companion, Michelle Triola, until her death in 2009. He’s been married to 47-year-old make-up artist Arlene Silver since 2012.
DAVID TOMLINSON After playing the fearsome George Banks, the star – who had to overcome a stutter to become an actor – appeared in Bedknobs and Broomsticks and The Love Bug. He died of a stroke in 2000 aged 83.
GLYNIS JOHNS (95) The South Africa-born Welsh actress played the energetic mom Winifred Banks and enjoyed a successful stage career, winning a Tony Award in 1973 for her Broadway performance in A Little Night Music. She retired from acting in 1999 after appearing in Will Ferrell’s Superstar.
KAREN DOTRICE (63) Her role as Jane Banks led to appearances in several TV programmes. She starred in only one feature film as an adult, The ThirtyNine Steps, and has been outspoken about the perils of being a child star. “It’s just not normal for a child to have that kind of focus on them and then trot off into life thinking everyone’s going to pamper you.”
MATTHEW GARBER He melted hearts as the wide-eyed Michael Banks and went on to star in two other Disney films – The Three Lives of Thomasina and The Gnome-Mobile. He contracted hepatitis while in India and later died of pancreatitis in 1977 aged just 21. He was posthumously named a Disney Legend in 2004.
