Royals to watch around the world
LIFESTYLE
BRITAIN’S royal family may be the world’s most famous but plenty of other bluebloods are breaking down barriers, defying expectations and becoming embroiled in romantic dramas worthy of a Hollywood movie. Here’s our list of royals to watch in 2019.
Royal and good-looking – some guys just have all the luck.
Prince Nikolai (19), the firstborn son of Prince Joachim (49) and his first wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg (54), is only sixth in line to the throne of Denmark but he has a blossoming career in fashion to keep him busy.
The green-eyed prince landed himself a plum deal with Denmark’s Scoop Models in 2017 and has walked in London Fashion Week alongside the likes of Cara Delevingne no less.
Nikolai also opened his first menswear show in June 2018, walking in designer Kim Jones’ debut Dior show in Paris. He must have done a good job because Jones chose Nikolai to feature in campaign shoots for the collection.
Some might think strutting down a catwalk isn’t a suitable profession for a prince but Nikolai’s dad, younger son of Queen Margrethe II (78) and the late Prince Henrik, has no problem with it. In fact, he effectively excused his son from all royal duties last year to allow him to pursue his passion.
“He mustn’t be forced into anything,” Joachim told Danish newspaper Billed Bladed. “He must decide on his own future.” An excellent idea, considering that of all Margrethe’s eight grandchildren, only future king Prince Christian (13) will receive an appanage – money, a title and an estate. Better hope all that posing pays well, then.
