OH, WHAT BIG FEET!
An elephant can’t jump or gallop but can reach a speed of 40km/h. It walks on its toes and each foot’s elevated heel is supported by a fatty cushion of tissue covered in thick skin. This also helps it to move quietly. Each foot is 40-50cm long and 1,3m in circumference. African elephants’ front feet have four toenails and the back feet have three.
