MUCHIMBA/ HIMBA TRIBE, ANGOLA & NAMIBIA
These seminomadic people live mainly in Angola’s dusty border area with Namibia, on the dry Kaokoveld Plateau in the Cunene region. The Cunene River plays a central role in daily life, much of which revolves around cattle and goats. Many women living in the rural villages go topless and smear their skin with a mixture of butter, ash and ochre to keep them looking youthful. It’s apparently effective as many older Himba women have enviably smooth skin. There are estimated to be only 50 000 Muchimba/Himba left.
