NO REWARD EXPECTED!

WINNING LETTER

-

I’D LIKE to share a few things that happened this week. With not official load-shedding, horrendous traffic and people being impatient were directing on the roads, what happened to me on Monday made me smile to help the flow’ and realise there are still good people around. Firstly, as I was driving to work there was an old German shepherd dog loose on the road. I pulled over to help, and so did another lady who parked right next to the dog, in the middle of the road, stopping traffic. She opened her back door and the dog jumped in. She smiled acknowledgement and thanks to me for also stopping, and I saw her pull in at the nearest vet to drop the dog off. A bit further on, traffic was backed up again. This time a man and a woman had abandoned their vehicle on the grass island and were herding a family of Egyptian geese (dad, mom and six very small chicks) across the intersection to safety. Then on my way home around 8.30 that night, with load-shedding in full swing and most of the traffic lights out, I arrived at an intersection and could see that traffic was flowing intermittently. Two men who were not official pointsmen were directing traffic to help the flow. And this morning a man wearing a billboard advertising he was looking for a painting job was directing traffic in the rain. Thank you to all these kind people who are not looking for a reward but who help people or animals purely because they can. DAVINA LEENDERS, EMAIL
