YOU (South Africa)

On top of the world

-

It’s with pride and patriotism that I can say I’m South African. I believe in our potential as well as our ability to overcome challenges.

It’s easy to lose sight of our strengths and achievements as a nation and just how far we’ve come since 1994. This Rugby World Cup win speaks to our collective resilience and strength (YOU, 14 November).

Nelson Mandela once said sport has the power to change the world. In light of this, let’s believe in our country and reach new heights. After all, we’ve now won the Rugby World Cup three times.

The Boks’ recent success in Japan is a perfect example of how far teamwork can take you.

They triumphed through their individual special talents, the dedication of each player and their incredible dynamic as a team.

In our workplaces and communities we can also take a leaf from the Boks’ book. Each one of us has a special gift that’s needed to complement those of others.

No man is an island. You can’t succeed without the help and support of others. By supporting other people, you invite more support into your life so you can grow as an individual.

Let’s join hands and adopt the spirit of the Boks to heal the ills of our country. PERCY MOFFAT, MAMELODI EAST The first time we won the Rugby World Cup it was played in South Africa. Since then all the other world cups have been played away from home in Europe or Australasia.

Winning the world cup in France in 2007 was a great performance. But winning in Japan proves once and for all how strong our rugby is. May we grow even stronger together. DOLF, EMAIL Dear Mr President, Yes, we stood together and supported our Boks. How proud we are of them.

But, Mr President, how much did it cost for you to fly to Japan with your entourage? Surely you could’ve donated this money to the homeless and hungry?

Do you know that on the day you flew, Sassa pensions and grants were not paid? People of all races were crying.

Mr President, our problems in South Africa are escalating. Do something instead of flying around to where you aren’t really needed. NAH, PORT ELIZABETH
