Steven Spielberg’s daughter Mikaela has told her parents she wants to honour her body through a career in porn
HER father is a moviemaking legend and her mom a retired actress so it’s no surprise their daughter is following in their celluloid footsteps. But there is one major difference: Mikaela Spielberg is entering the world of porn – and she couldn’t be prouder.
Calling her decision a “positive, empowering choice” the 23-year-old daughter of Steven Spielberg (73) and Kate Capshaw (66) has nevertheless raised eyebrows with her bold choice.
“I’m not doing it out of an urge to hurt anybody or be spiteful, but because I want to honour my body in a way that’s lucrative,” she says in a candid recent interview with The Sun.
Mikaela, who’s based in Nashville, Tennessee, told her parents only a few weeks ago via Facebook Live and describes their reaction as intrigued but not upset.
Describing herself as a sexual creature, Mikaela says she grew frustrated with working in a “traditional” job – although it’s not clear what that was.
“I got really tired of not being able to capitalise on my body. And I also just got tired of working day to day in a way that wasn’t satisfying my soul.”
She’s released several solo videos on the website Pornhub and says her main hope is to get to a point where things are lucrative enough that she’s not tied down financially.
“I realised there’s no shame in having a fascination with this industry and wanting to do something that’s safe, sane and consensual.”
She adds that for the first time she feels confident and empowered – feelings she didn’t think she’d have after being sexually abused as a child.
“I feel I’m able to ‘satisfy’ other people, but that feels good because it’s not in a way that makes me feel violated.”
SHE’S at pains to point out her abusers weren’t part of her family. “The y were scumbag monsters who were looking at my vulnerability and go
ing: ‘That’s the one’.”
Mikaela says she was subjected to a lot of grooming.
“I feel like the abuse I went through wasn’t super-intense, but it still had a long-lasting impact, because it had me questioning, ‘What is my body? What is it to exist in a body safely? Also, what is it to be an emotional human being and not have it taken advantage of?”
The effects saw her struggling with alcoholism, anorexia and borderline personality disorder.
“I was really out of control from about the age of 11, even up to two years ago,” she says.
“So, that out-of-control-ness only stopped pretty recently. When I was 21 I used to drink every day and that went on for like two years until I almost died a couple of times.”
Right now she’s in a good place and sees several therapists. She also gets a lot of support from her fiancé, professional darts player Chuck Pankow (47).
While he’s supportive of her budding porn career she says it took him a long time to get there.
Which is why having sex on camera with another person is a definite no-no for Mikaela. She’d like to explore the fetish world but all her material will be solo.
“The reason I don’t want to do anything outside of solo stuff is because I feel like it would be a violation of my boundaries and my relationship with my significant other.”
MIKAELA, who was adopted by Steven and Kate in 1996 as a baby, says she expects a backlash from fans of her famous father. The veteran filmmaker is considered a genius in Hollywood circles with more than 100 films and three Oscars to his name.
“People will be resentful about this,” she says. “I have 50% of the people going, ‘Let me see your boobs!’ and then 50% of the people going, ‘How dare you ruin [the Spielberg] name for us?’”
Mikaela grew up with six siblings, all of whom are involved in the arts in some way. Jessica Capshaw (43), from Kate’s first marriage to Robert Capshaw, is an actress and married mom of four who’s starred in series such as Grey’s Anatomy and The Practice.

Theo (31) was adopted by Kate before she married Steven, who then formally adopted him. He’s a musician in the indie folk band Wardell with his sister, Sasha (29), who’s also appeared in many of her dad’s movies including Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Munich and The Post.
Steven and Kate’s youngest son, Sawyer (27), has done crew work on several of his dad’s films and daughter Destry (23) is a model turned actress and photographer.
Mikaela says she and her siblings grew up attending events such as the Oscars with their famous parents although they were generally shielded from red carpets and the paparazzi.
Steven, who’s amassed a $3,7 billion (R55bn) fortune, has a reputation for being a fanatical workaholic. However, he says after he had his first child his paradigm changed.
“Everything from that moment on had to do with my kids’ wellbeing, and my career suddenly came second.”
Now that they’re older he says his main job is to be a good listener for his brood.
Mikaela describes her dad as “literally like an angel” and says she had a unique relationship with him growing up.
“Because of him I loved sci-fi and fantasy because he bought me books and played videogames with me,” she says.
Some of her problems began when she was sent to boarding school but it wasn’t her parents’ fault, she adds, “because they couldn’t have known”.
“I have amazing parents who had their struggles with me. They’re some of the least spiteful people I know. I love them so deeply.”
Right now Mikaela is working on getting her adult entertainer’s licence in accordance with the strict rules in the state of Tennessee. She also wants to dance in a strip club once she’s “legal”.
Describing the culture of shame in America’s South, she says, “Even though it’s legal to be an adult actor and make and write erotica privately, you can’t do it publicly without a licence.”
A source close to Steven says he supports his daughter but is also uncomfortable about her decision to enter the porn world.
“Outwardly Steven and Kate, who are the most evolved parents in the world, have always been supportive of Mikaela and try to understand her. Obviously though they’re embarrassed by her sudden public admission of entry into the sex-worker world.”
However, Mikaela believes her parents will eventually see they’ve brought up a respectable young woman.
“I actually think that once my parents see how far I’ve come from the bottom I was at a year and a half ago, they’re going to go, ‘ Wow, we actually raised a really self-assured young lady’.”
