‘Jandre had the positive pregnancy test wrapped up for me to open’

-

“We’ve been busy as a bee and now there are three!” announced excited dad-to-be VINCENT KOCH (30) on Instagram. The Springbok and wife JANDRE (27), who celebrate their third wedding anniversary this month, are expecting a baby in October. The couple are in SA now but have been based in London where the tighthead prop plays for Saracens. We chatted to Vincent about the exciting news. How did you find out you’re going to be a dad? Jandre woke me up with breakfast in bed and had the positive pregnancy test wrapped up for me to open. It was such an incredible surprise and we both shed happy tears.

This is our first child and we’re excited to welcome them into the world. What are you most excited about? I’m most looking forward to holding my little one for the first time, knowing that they’re a part of me!

I’m looking forward to spending time with my wife and the baby and doing things with them that I did as a child, and creating our own memories. Do you have a nickname for the baby? We call the baby Nunu. Don’t ask me why – my missus came up with it. How are you coping with the lockdown? I don’t really know when we’re going to be able to play rugby again and the uncertainty makes it difficult to stay motivated.

I’m trying to maintain my schedule as best as I can, and do what I’d normally do in the week – running in the morning and weight training in the afternoon.

The coaches stay in touch to make sure we maintain our fitness and to ensure we stay bonded as a team.
