THE SCREAM, OSLO
The Scream, the famous 1910 painting by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, is getting damaged by the breathing of visitors to the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway.
Researchers found that Munch inadvertently used impure yellow paint. It fades and peels with the slightest moisture in the air, which is why visitors’ breathing is making the work fade faster.
The museum is moving to new premises later this year and curators will use this new research to decide how the painting will be displayed.
