NEW PARTS OF POMPEII OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
After being closed for months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the excavations of the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy have been reopened to the public. Tourists can now also visit parts of the excavations previously not open to the public. Pompeii, situated 25km from Naples, was a Roman city that was destroyed about 2 000 years ago when the volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted. The city remained largely preserved in volcanic ash for millennia before it was discovered in 1748.
