BACK in the day she played the baby in a household filled with siblings, aunts and uncles – but it seems the love of a full house hasn’t rubbed off on MARY-KATE OLSEN (33) in real life. At least, not when that house is filled with her husband’s ex, kids and mother . . .
The former child star and her husband, OLIVIER SARKOZY (51), have been making headlines recently with their acrimonious split – which has been complicated by the coronavirus at every turn.
Mary-Kate wanted to file divorce papers in New York last month but was turned down because the courts didn’t accept nonemergency cases (YOU, 28 May).
So when the courts reopened on 25 May, the American fashion designer was first in line. She claimed the French banker was kicking her out of their New York flat and that she had nowhere to go – but insiders now say this isn’t the whole story.
Much of her haste to end the five-year marriage was because Olivier’s ex-wife, children’s book author CHARLOTTE BERNARD (48), as well as their children, Julien (18) and Margot (16), and his mom, Christine de Ganay (76), were quarantining with them in their house in the town of Bridgehampton, Long Island.
“Olivier was concerned for the safety of his family in New York during the pandemic,” the source claims. “He told Mary-Kate he wanted to move his ex-wife, their kids and his mother out of the city and into their home in Long Island.
“Maybe French people culturally have a different view of marriage. And while MaryKate loves his children, it was too much to have his ex-wife living with them during the pandemic.” Another source claims cohabiting with Olivier’s family was merely the tipping point for the couple.
“It was simply erosion . . . growing apart. There was no cheating or betrayals. Sometimes couples just run their course. The plan to move in his family was his way of moving on, and the final straw for Mary-Kate.”
