UNITED STATES YOUNGEST AMERICAN IN SPACE

HAYLEY ARCENEAUX is set to become the youngest American and first person with a prosthesis in space. The 29-year-old physician assistant is one of four members of an all-civilian crew (they aren’t astronauts but received special training) who will orbit the Earth later this year, the first space mission of its kind.

Hayley developed bone cancer when she was 10 years old and lost part of her left leg as a result. She now works in the same hospital where she was treated as a child.

INDIA PLANS FOR THE WORLD’S BIGGEST ZOO

Mukesh Ambani and his family, the richest family in India, are planning to build the world’s biggest zoo in the city of Jamnagar. The size of the park is said to be 113 hectares – roughly the size of 100 rugby fields.

Mukesh is the 11th richest person in the world. He’s worth an estimated $83,1 billion (over R1,2 trillion) and is the head of Reliance Industries Limited, India’s most-valued company.

Set to be called the Green Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Kingdom, the zoo is expected to accommodate nearly 100 animal species. Some will be native to India but others include African lions, Bengal tigers and Komodo dragons.

NEW ZEALAND WHALES REFLOATED IN NEW ZEALAND

Rescuers managed to save 28 pilot whales that were stranded on a beach at Farewell Spit in New Zealand. The mammals swam too close to the shore and were unable to get back into the water on their own, which left them at risk of dying.

A team of 60 volunteers helped push and encourage the whales to swim back into the water. This part of the country’s coastline has experienced 10 cases of pilot whale strandings in the past 15 years.
