HOW TO REGISTER

-

Download the CF-1E form (application for the registration of the domestic worker) at tinyurl.com/CFLABOUR. Download the PDF file and print pages 12-16. Once you’ve completed them you can scan them and email them to registrationCF@ labour.gov.za or cfcallcentre@labour.gov.za with the following documents:

■ A completed CF-1E form

■ A copy of the identification document or passport and work permit of the employer (if they’re not a South African citizen)

■ Proof of the employer’s residential address

■ A copy of the ID, passport or work permit of the employee(s)

■ Or you can post the documents to: PO Box 955, Pretoria 0001. You’ll receive a confirmation to acknowledge your registration as well as a unique Compensation Fund number either by email or post for each employee you register.

The number is for the employee, not you as the employer. So if you have a nanny, domestic helper and a driver who you’re registering, you’ll receive three unique numbers.

SUBMISSION OF RETURN OF EARNINGS

Employers are required to submit a Return of Earnings (ROE) annually between 1 April and 31 May. This is a declaration of the amount that the employee will earn from 1 March that year until 28 February the following year (taking into account salary increases).

This is used by the department of labour to determine what the employer will need to contribute to the fund. So essentially you’re showing what the employee will earn per month over a year. It’s a bit like filing an annual tax return but much less complicated.

HERE ARE THE STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW:

■ Go to cfonline.labour.gov.za/onlinesubmissions. Click on Online User Registration and register as an online user. You’ll be emailed a username and password.

■ Once you’ve received those, go to cfonline. labour.gov.za/onlinesubmissions. Log in then click on Submit ROE (in the left-hand navigation bar).

■ Fill in the form (you’ll need your unique compensation number) and submit.

■ Within 24 hours you’ll receive an invoice showing the amount that you have to pay and the necessary banking details (see left for how this amount is calculated).

■ If you don’t get the email contact cfcallcentre@labour.gov.za
