HE’S TRYING TO STEAL OUR COMPANY

-

I started a company with a good friend whom I trusted without a doubt. As the years went by, we built up a very strong company and both made a lot of money.

A year ago, when the pandemic started and we needed funds he told me he had a good investor, someone he’d known for several years.

However, I’ve realised that my partner and the investor in fact want to do a hostile takeover of the company.

I also discovered that they committed fraud by putting the investor’s name on our company documents as a partner without my consent.

I feel helpless and very stressed and I’m unable to sleep at night. It feels as if everything is going to come crashing down on me at any moment. What can I do? Brad, email

The first thing you need to do is to get your emotional state in order. Consult your doctor about prescribing some medication that will help you feel calmer and allow you to sleep better because you need all your faculties in order to fight back and to think strategically.

The second step is to find an attorney that specialises in company law. Try to get as many copies of the documents you mention, as well as any other incriminating evidence, for your attorney.

Make sure you have signing rights on all the money that is spent by the company so you can keep track of what’s going out and where it’s going.

Discuss with your attorney the strategy you should follow to prepare for the legal battle that may come.
