VARIOUS ARTISTS Coming 2 America

A cover of Prince and The New Power Generation’s Gett Off by Teyana Taylor, Jermaine Fowler and Brandon Rogers sets the tone for the soundtrack of the sequel to Eddie Murphy’s 1988 hit movie.

Plenty of contemporary R&B and hip-hop artists are featured, including Bobby Sessions, who teams up with Megan Thee Stallion; John Legend featuring Nile Rodgers; as well as ’80s and ’90s hitmakers like Public Enemy featuring Ice-T; En Vogue and SaltN-Pepa; empress of soul Gladys Knight; and SA’s own Mi Casa with their track These Streets.

Other featured African artists include Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage and Burna Boy.

Several of the 12 tracks have a distinct new-jack-swing vibe (mash-up of R&B and hip-hop from the late eighties and nineties), which is probably appropriate as the film’s characters would have been introduced to it on their first visit to America.
