6 UNDERGROUND

Action. A billionaire (Ryan Reynolds) decides he can put his money to good use by ridding the world of an evil dictator, and recruits five mercenaries (including Good Omens’ Adria Arjona and Straight outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins) to help him do it.

They come from all walks of life with various skill sets and Reynolds’ character, known as One, refers to them by numbers because he doesn’t want anyone becoming too attached.

This movie is exactly what you’d expect from director Michael Bay (Armageddon, Transformers), and doesn’t disappoint in terms of overthe-top chase scenes complete with explosions and shootouts.

The problem is its poor script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Zombieland, Deadpool). The characters aren’t fleshed out enough and lack depth and motivation. A brief backstory is given for each, but leaves you more confused than illuminated. Perhaps this was done intentionally in the hopes that there’ll be a 6 Underground Again.

But if all you’re after is a good skop, skiet en donder movie shot in scenic locations to while away a Friday night, this delivers and is worth a watch.
