Hagia Sophia, Turkey

A former church in the city of Istanbul and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it was the largest cathedral in the world for over 1 000 years and was converted to a mosque in 1453. It became a museum in 1935 but last year Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced it would be a mosque again when it lost its museum status in a Turkish court.
