EGYPT ‘LOST CITY’ DISCOVERED

Archaeologists have found a 3 000-year-old “Lost Golden City” in Egypt. The ancient city, known as Aten, is said to be the largest that’s been discovered in the country. It’s thought to date back to the 1350 BC and is believed to have been ruled by one of Egypt’s most famous pharaohs, Amenhotep III.

Egyptologists, researchers who study the history, culture and traditions of ancient Egypt, believe the find is important as it’ll be able to give them insight on how people lived during those times.

SAINT VINCENT VOLCANO ERUPTION FORCES PEOPLE TO EVACUATE

A volcano called La Soufrière that has erupted in Saint Vincent, an island in the Caribbean, forced around 20 000 people to leave their homes and find safety.

The island was covered in ash and many people were left without electricity.

The active volcano, which last erupted in 1979, exploded with a loud bang and sent ash and smoke 8km into the air.

Four large cruise ships were sent to pick up people and take them to safety in nearby island nations.

However, only people vaccinated for Covid-19 were allowed to leave.

KENYA LOCUST SWARMS DECREASE

The swarms of locusts, which have been eating through crops of grains, vegetables, sugar cane and fruit trees in Kenya for the past 14 months, are said to be decreasing.

A lack of rain in the area has meant that the insects cannot breed and grow. This is good news as the insects were causing devastating food shortages for Kenyan people.

Locusts can eat the same amount of food in one day as about 35 000 people. It’s been the worst swarm of desert locusts the East African country has experienced in 70 years.
