R15 billion
The owners of Ever Given, the ship that was stuck in the Suez Canal in Egypt for almost a week last month, have been ordered to pay this amount to Egyptian authorities before the ship can sail away. It blocked this important waterway, stopping other ships from getting to their destinations on time. The money will go towards refunding ships that were stuck in the traffic jam, cover costs for the workers and equipment used to free the ship and to fix damage done to the canal.
