A SAD FAREWELL

-

I just heard of the death of Prince Philip and feel very sad for the queen, especially after what Harry and Meghan did to her. She’s lost her greatest support and it seems at the moment her problems are never-ending but she’s a strong woman and we can learn from her strength.

It’s a pity Philip couldn’t make it to his 100th birthday but I guess he was close enough. May he rest in peace. He certainly earned it. SUE GLAISTER, EMAIL

I watched the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral and it struck me how sad and lonely the Queen was on her own. For the life of me I can’t understand why one of her sons did not walk with her and give her an arm to lean on as a couple of times I noticed she was unsteady on her feet. Surely protocol could have eased for this period of time.

I am English and love the traditions, pomp and ceremony, nobody can do better, but I got very upset seeing her sitting on her own in the pew, bowed head, my heart just bled for her.

Otherwise it was a beautiful service. P BALDWIN, EMAIL

It seems ridiculous to be saddened when hearing of the death of a celebrity one has never met, but it does happen to me, especially when the person still has their whole life ahead of them. The untimely passing of Paul Walker, Luke Perry, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Patrick Swayze and Robin Williams, to mention a few, all affected me.

Then on 9 April the world received the sad news of the passing of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

If the loss of a stranger can affect me, there are no words to explain how devastating it’s been to lose my parents and my husband in a period of just over two years. 3 ANGELS IN HEAVEN, EMAIL

I’m not ashamed to admit I shed a tear when I saw the queen sitting so tiny and alone in church as she bade farewell to her husband. If only there’d been someone to put an arm around her. I hope the royals aren’t as stiff behind closed doors as they are in public. GIVE HER A HUG, EMAIL
