Scientists in Florida in the United States have found that a common antibiotic used to treat humans is 95% effective in addressing threatened coral reefs. Doctors usually give the medication, called amoxicillin, to treat chest and ear infections. Now researchers have found it helps prevent and treat stony coral tissue loss, a condition that destroys soft tissue on the coral and ends up killing it.
