Scientists in Florida in the United States have found that a common antibiotic used to treat humans is 95% effective in addressing threatened coral reefs. Doctors usually give the medication, called amoxicilli­n, to treat chest and ear infections. Now researcher­s have found it helps prevent and treat stony coral tissue loss, a condition that destroys soft tissue on the coral and ends up killing it.
