SIV NGESI & MOM ZANELE

3 life lessons your mom taught you ● What you put in is what you get out. ● Be respectful to anyone and everyone, especially adults. And never call someone by their name if they are old – you call them “aunt” or “uncle”. ● What people think of you has nothing to do with you. 2 things you have in common with her ● She’s one of the most opinionated people I know, second to me. ● She absolutely loves giving and has got the biggest heart in the world, 1 gift you bought her for Mother’s Day ● The best gift I’ve ever given my mom on Mother’s Day is money, because my mother loves cash!

KATE LIQUORISH & MOM CAROL

3 life lessons your mom taught you ● When you love someone, tell them, and tell them often. ● Nothing is permanent: for every choice you make, there’s an alternative to rectify the first. ● When in doubt, drink wine. 2 things you have in common with her ● We're both hopeless peoplepleasers. ● We both love a cup of coffee in bed before starting our day. 1 gift you bought her for Mother’s Day ● A flight to Joburg. She lives in Kentonon-Sea in the Eastern Cape so she doesn’t get to see my kids often.

The worst gift was a frying pan I bought when I was eight. My mom didn’t like it but I was so excited she couldn’t do anything but smile when I gave it to her.

LIESL LAURIE & MOM KAREN

3 life lessons your mom taught you ● No matter how far down you fall you can always get up, dust yourself off, put on your lipstick and try again. ● She taught me to laugh and to do it often. ● To be kind to myself. Growing up I was bullied, but she taught me I need to love myself. 2 things you have in common with her ● We both love spicy food. ● We love binge-watching series with a blankie on the couch. 1 gift you bought her for Mother’s Day ● I bought her a purse when I was a child and put a little note in it, which she loved.

ANTON DAVID JEFTHA & MOM VERONIQUE

3 life lessons your mom taught you ● From a very early age she’d always tell me, “Take charge, Anton. Be proactive.” ● Serve and put family first. ● She also taught me the value of hard work – there’s not a day I’ve not seen her work exceptionally hard, studying and just gaining more knowledge and education as she went along. 2 things you have in common with her ● My mother and I are very close. I don’t think there’s anyone I’m closer to than her. We put family first and value them. ● We are both pretty ambitious. My mother comes from absolutely nothing – she grew up in a tin house on the Cape Flats and she’s gone on to become a financial director at a big company. 1 gift you bought her for Mother’s Day ● The best gift I got her were a pair of beautiful diamond earrings. She was very much in love with them.
