CELEBRATING HER HERITAGE The six-track Spanish EP entitled La Fuerza was born from a desire by the Grammywinning pop star to celebrate her Hispanic heritage.

“Latin music has always been rooted in me and my childhood and once that connection is there it’s with you forever.

“La Fuerza is a project for myself, my roots and my kids – so they can sense a deeper level of who they are,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

“I’m proud to explore more about myself and my musical passions with every new project.”

When she broke into the music scene over two decades ago she was pressured to change her last name, with music execs saying it was “too complicated” and “too ethnic”, but she refused, she says, as she wanted to stay true to herself.

SPANISH STARS Christina looks set to reach the same pop heights in the Spanish-language market as she’s done in the US market.

Billboard Argentina has said the EP is one of her best. It features prominent Latin artists, including Nathy Peluso, Nicki Nicole and Becky G.

“It’s been incredibly special to get to work with so many talented artists in bringing this body of work to life and this is only the first chapter!” the 41-year-old said, adding that it’s one of three projects she plans to release this year. The next one will focus on her relationship with her estranged father.

SHE’S GONE SPANISH BEFORE This isn’t the first time the Dirrty singer has released a Spanish album. Her first was in 2000, Mi Reflejo (My Reflection). It did well, debuting at No 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart and clinching her a best female pop vocal album win at the 2001 Latin Grammy Awards. “Mi Reflejo had been such a beautiful, special time in my life, but it was 20plus years ago when I was coming on the scene. I was so green to the business. I was baby Christina,” she told CNN. “Now I’m a grown woman who has had such an incredible career. Now I get to come back having reflected on that.”
