HACKS FOR LIPS
CREATE THE ILLUSION OF FULLER LIPS
Lipliner doesn’t just keep your lipstick in place – if you draw just slightly over the natural lines of your lips, you can make your pout appear larger.
According to Dominic Skinner, Global Senior Artist at MAC, to create naturally fuller lips use a lip pencil two shades darker than the lip colour you want to wear to contour and enhance your lip shape. Skinner suggests starting from your natural inner corner and then as you draw to the Cupid’s bow, start lifting above your natural lip line.
“Mirror this on the bottom lip, so you end up drawing under your lip line as well,” he says. Lastly, he suggests, “To amplify your newly formed lip, pop some clear lip gloss in the very centre of your lip only.”
MAKE ANY LIPSTICK MATTE
Found a colour you love but wish it were matte? You can fix that with a powder blush. Find a (shimmer-free) product that’s close to your lipstick colour, dust it onto your lips with your finger and voilà – matte lip colour.
LAYER TO MAKE YOUR LIPSTICK LAST
Apply, blot, dust, apply – four steps to turn your average lip colour application into a longwearing wonder. Apply your lipstick, blot with a tissue, lightly dust translucent powder and then apply again. Those extra seconds will give you hours of extra wear.
ADD POWER TO YOUR POUT
Highlighter isn’t just for your cheekbones, says makeup artist Renee De Wit – if you add a little shimmer to your Cupid’s bow, it will open up your lips, making them look more voluptuous. Opt for a champagne-toned highlighter as it’s the most natural match; either apply it with your finger along the Cupid’s bow or use a soft fluffy brush.
