MICRODERMABRASION

-

WHAT IS IT? One of the most popular nonsurgical skin-resurfacing treatments, microdermabrasion is an in-clinic mechanical exfoliation treatment that buffs away the dead skin cells, leaving skin looking more radiant and plump while improving the surface texture and smoothing superficial fine lines and wrinkles. HOW DOES IT WORK? Deborah Minnaar, former senior beauty aesthetician at TITI Medi Spa, explains the procedure as a machine-assisted skin-exfoliating treatment, which uses a combination of fine abrasive crystals and vacuum suction to gently remove the top dead layers of the skin’s outer layer known as the stratum corneum.

Not as complicated, or uncomfortable, as it sounds, microdermabrasion essentially buffs away the dead skin cells improving conditions of the skin that are at a superficial depth.

Think early signs of photo damage, fine lines, superficial scarring on the skin as well as a dull and sallow skin tone.

Although the face is the most commonly treated area with microdermabrasion, other areas of the body such as the neck, chest, back and hands can also be treated.

POST -TREATMENT AND RESULTS Overall, it’s a super-fast and non-invasive treatment, which means that there’s zero downtime so you can fit it in during your lunch break and not have to worry about scaring anyone off with red raw cheeks.

Skin is left looking more radiant, rejuvenated and feeling smoother. NOT FOR EVERYONE Minnaar warns against the treatment for those with sensitive skin or suffering from eczema, rosacea or open wounds. This is because the mechanical exfoliation can aggravate the skin.
