The app that wants you to be real

- BY MAXINE PETERS

MOST of us are familiar with the funny and sometimes facealtering filters that can be used when sharing pictures on social media.

Now a new social app has joined the likes of Facebook, Instagram and TikTok – with one major difference.

BeReal’s mission is simple: to encourage users to post content and pictures that are filter-free and authentic.

This means focusing more on connecting with friends and family and simply being yourself every day.

The French-based photo app is the brainchild of Alexis Barreyat, a former GoPro employee, and Kévin Perreau who’ve called it “a new and unique way to discover who your friends really are in their daily life”.

“After being tired and annoyed with social media, I decided to launch my own,” Alexis says.

“No likes, no followers, no ads, no filters, just what my friends are doing in the most authentic way possible.”

The aim of BeReal is to let users be who they really are and remove the pressure and anxiety that comes with trying to post picture-perfect images on social media.

Instead, just BeReal.

?? ?? Two French creators have launched an app called BeReal which aims to take the pressure off users to be picture perfect. It encourages them to show their authentic selves.
