OTHER THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

-

S For all gas installations you require a certificate that states the installation has been properly inspected and is determined to be safe and leak-free. This must be issued by a certified gas installer. You can check if the installer is registered at lpgas.co.za or saqccgas.co.za S All gas appliances sold in South Africa must be LP Gas approved. Look out for the LP Gas Safe sticker when you buy. S All gas hobs and stoves sold should be equipped with flame failure devices that will automatically detect if there’s no flame. Each plate of a gas hob has two pins (see illustration below). One will be the electronic igniter (it’s white) and the flame failure device is a steel pin. If it senses there’s no flame it will immediately cut off the gas to prevent an accident. S Portable gas heaters usually use a 9kg cylinder which sits at the back of the appliance and these don’t require professional installation. However, there are some types of heaters and fireplaces where the canister can be stored separately inside the house and in these cases the same safety rules apply that are used to regulate gas usage for other installations.
