STREAMING GIANTS GO TOE TO TOE
Disney+ slowly edges past Netflix
DISNEY+ has become the world’s biggest subscription TV streaming company after it overtook Netflix with the total number of subscribers. The US streaming giant now has 221 million subscribers, surpassing Netflix’s 220,67 million subscribers.
Disney is winning the battle of the streaming giants because it owns the most successful Hollywood film and TV studio in history.
Disney, who bought Marvel Entertainment and its 5 000 characters in a deal worth billions in 2004, also offers a slew of superhero movies.
But like Netflix, the streaming giant has announced it’ll soon be bringing in a big price increase for those who want to watch Disney+ without adverts.
The company, who’s previously stated it plans to lose money on Disney+ until 2024, says the price increases reflect the current cost of doing business.
