According to those close to her, the horrific car crash that caused Anne’s death came at the end of a downward spiral that started when she split from actor Thomas Jane (53), whom she dated from 2019 through 2020.
“She was crazy in love with him,” a friend says. “After so many failed relationships she thought she’d finally found her person – the guy who would be in her life forever.
“When they couldn’t make it work, she started falling apart.”
This followed a pattern for the actress whose previous break-ups have preceded bizarre behaviour, according to insiders.
The day after she split from ELLEN DEGENERES (now 64), Anne turned up at a stranger’s home in the tiny town of Cantua Creek, California, wearing nothing but shorts and a bra, asking if she could take a shower. It was later revealed she was high on ecstasy.
Ellen and Anne started dating in 1997 and quickly became tabloid fodder much to the detriment of the budding actress. After three years together they went their separate ways with Anne later slamming Ellen for being money-hungry and blaming the same-sex romance for derailing her career.
“The stigma attached to that relationship was so bad . . . I didn’t do a studio picture for 10 years. I was fired from a $10-million picture deal,” Anne said.
