UNIQUE SEAGRASS MEADOW STUNS SCIENTISTS
Researchers from The University of Western Australia have discovered a massive seagrass meadow, which is the world’s largest single living organism based on area. The Poseidon’s ribbon weed seagrass grows underwater, in a protected area called Shark Bay, and spans an area as large as 280 soccer fields.
Scientists also found that the meadow, believed to be about 4 500 years old, can clone, or copy, itself to continue through a network of branches. Seagrasses help purify water and host many other species, which is why they are important to protect.
