DRIVING SUSTAINABILITY
A sport that relies heavily on fuel has long been pressured to increase their green credentials. This focus has attracted attention from the Volkswagen Group that announced it would enter F1 with its Audi and Porsche brands thanks to new rules.
“In 2026 at the latest you will have to race with a sustainable fuel; in other words a net carbon-zero fuel,” says F1’s managing director of motor sports Ross Brawn. “It’s another weapon in the fight against the environmental challenge.
“We believe F1 can set an example of how a sustainable fuel can be created and used, and that’s a big thing we’re working on now. That’s why we’re seeing manufacturers take a much stronger interest because they can see the value of that involvement, and it’s no secret that Volkswagen with Porsche and Audi are having a very close look at F1.”
