HER DRESSES

No 1 The gown Jen wore to walk down the aisle was dramatic and diva-ish. The classic turtleneck column dress was modified to include layer upon layer of luxurious ruffles, made from 500m of fabric and 1 000 handkerchiefs that were attached by hand.

“Each handkerchief becomes a nostalgic keepsake and a modern heirloom,” designer Ralph Lauren said. The look was finished off with a cathedral-length veil, which is anywhere between 2,7m and 3m long.

No 2 Channelling old-school Hollywood glamour, the two-time Grammy nominee donned an intricately beaded dress later in the day. “The chandelier pearl gown is a celebration of everlasting love as symbolised by one of Ralph’s favourite accessories – a string of pearls,” the design house said.

“Together, 30 artisans worked for 700 hours to hand-embroider the gown with micro-pleats of silk tulle, tiny resin-pearl embellishments and glinting Swarovski crystals that dangle like the drops of a delicate chandelier.”

No 3 The third mermaid-style gown, which she wore later in the evening to cut the cake, featured dramatic Swarovski crystal embellishments at the keyhole cutout and pleating across her back. It came complete with a sheer organza hood.

“Ralph created the bride’s three custom gowns with love, care and consideration woven into every detail of the silhouettes,” the design studio said. “Modern heirlooms for a timeless romance.”

“The dresses were dreamy . . . Thank you, Ralph Lauren,” Jen wrote on her blog.
