WILLIAM AND KATE

-

The new king announced his heir and eldest son, Prince William (40), and daughter-in-law, Kate (40), would be the new Prince and Princess of Wales.

“He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities for the Duchy of Cornwall, which I have undertaken for more than five decades,” Charles said. “Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear.

“With Catherine beside him, I know our new Prince and Princess of Wales will continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given.”

William is now first in line to the throne and will become king when Charles dies or if he retires or abdicates. Kate will become queen consort and Prince George will become heir and inherit his father’s dukedoms.

Kate is aware of the significance of her Princess of Wales title – the last person to use it was her late mother-in-law, Diana.

Princess Charlotte (7) and Prince Louis (4) are next in line to the throne after George. The children are now Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis of Cornwall and Cambridge.
