SINS OF THE FATHER

- BY DIRE TLADI PORCUPINE PRESS – ANDRÉ J BRINK

South African diplomats are in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to conclude a deal to deliver much-needed electricity to Eskom. The meeting is rocked by a bomb blast which kills at least 17 people. Those responsible send a message to the phone of one of the South Africans who gets killed. It reads: “We want him. The first one will be a warning. There will be many more.”

More attacks – in South Africa itself – follow. Tolamo Moagi, a former deputy prosecutor at the International Criminal Court, gets roped in to help find the terrorists and the mystery person they’re looking for.

Author Dire Tladi is a law professor at the University of Pretoria, and Sins of the Father is the sequel to his debut novel, Blood in the Sand of Justice. Although it can be read as a standalone, it probably would’ve helped to understand the main character better as there are numerous references to what happened previously.

Although I find the nature of the weapon/device everybody is chasing to be a bit far-fetched, I’m sure that Sins of the Father will resonate with those who believe elections can and have been “stolen”.
