HOW DID THE COURT MAKE ITS DECISION?
The court believed that many of the affected people were not given enough background information on the procedures that would be carried out by Shell. Many locals are isiXhosaspeaking and “barely understood” some of the information that was circulated in newspapers. “We respect the court’s decision and we will be reviewing the judgement to determine our next decision regarding the Wild Coast block,” says Shell SA’s Pam Ntaka. “At this stage it’s very difficult to comment on whether we will appeal the judgement or not.”
