HOW TO SAY IT: ree-pa-tree-ayt

When a country repatriates people or objects, it refers to returning something to its homeland. The word, used since around the 1600s, comes from the Latin word repatriare, “return to one’s own country”, from the prefix re, “back”, and patria, “native land”.
