A MODERN MONARCHY

-

Charles’ main aim is to ensure the monarchy has a future and he has plans to shake things up for the sake of longevity, such as the honours system. OBE stands for Order of the British Empire but insiders say he wants to replace the word “Empire” with “Excellence” to make it less of a harking-back to colonial times.

As king he’s now also head of the Church of England and one of his titles is Defender of the Faith, but Charles wants to change it to Defender of Faith to make it more inclusive of other religions.

He’d also like to see the honours system become more of a celebration and less formal. “He finds it a shame that, after receiving an honour, recipients simply leave,” an insider tells the Daily Mail newspaper. “How much more appropriate it would be for the occasion to be marked by a party.”

Climate change and agriculture will remain a top priority. “But the king will make sure he steers away from controversy while trying to still make a difference,” the insider says.

However, the public shouldn’t expect any “huge, jarring differences”, royal expert Victoria Murphy says. Charles knows how heartbroken the nation is and won’t go in all guns blazing. Continuity and stability will be the overriding message of the new reign, at least until the public gets used to life without Elizabeth.
