MY FIRST SENTENCE

-

Toddlers tend to embarrass their parents at odd times and I was no exception.

The earliest occasion was when the local “lady of the manor”came to tea. She lowered her bulk into the best chair and eyed my mother’s sliced ginger loaf. She extended a heavily be-ringed hand and put a slice on her side plate.

I piped up, “You’ve got the cat’s plate!” My mother gasped more loudly than our visitor. Up to that moment I hadn’t spoken one word, never mind an entire sentence! EAT MY WORDS, EMAIL
