A choir for South Africa
Bringing together talented youngsters from across the country
IT’S a dream come true for well-known TV producer and presenter Anthonie Bougas. He has always dreamed of establishing a prestigious choir which could represent South Africa internationally. Bougas himself was part of the internationally renowned Tygerberg Children’s Choir, and with the launch of the Sing in Harmonie choirs competition on TV, he got one step closer to his dream.
It was finally realised four months ago, with the Sing in Harmony senior choir consisting of 130 children, and the junior choir consisting of 50.
Even though the choir is still in its infancy, it already has a hugely successful performance with popular singer Leah under its belt. Another performance, this time with Juanita du Plessis, awaits the choir in November.
The choir members are also very excited about their Christmas programme, which will be broadcasted on DSTV on Christmas Eve.
The choir is accompanied by Madri Gerber, and has three assistant coaches, Lizl Gaffley, Karen de Goede and Phillip Kotze. Karina Erasmus is the head coach.
When asked how this choir has changed her life, choir leader Karina Erasmus replies: “The Sing in Harmony choir gives me the opportunity to work with children across the country, and to harmonise them together. It’s fulfilling to have kids sing – it touches my heart to experience the enjoyment when they find out they’re getting something right, and can do so beautifully.” Erasmus is also choir leader of the wellknown Tygerberg Children’s Choir.
A tour abroad in 2023 is already on the cards. There is no doubt in his mind that this choir will be up to international standard, says Bougas.
