LIGHTS OUT FOR EIFFEL TOWER
The Eiffel Tower, one of the main tourist attractions in Paris, is being turned off an hour earlier to save electricity. Once it begins to get dark, the 330-metre-tall monument usually flickers its 20 000 light bulbs for five minutes every hour, lighting up the night sky.
However, France has been experiencing rising energy costs due to the war in Ukraine, which could spark power cuts in the region. French president Emmanuel Macron has already asked government, businesses and homeowners to limit their energy use.
