MARVEL’S WEREWOLF BY NIGHT
Marvel Studios’ first special presentation, WEREWOLF BY NIGHT, is a throwback to classic Universal black-andwhite horror movies, and arrives in time for Halloween.
A secret cabal of monster hunters gather at the foreboding Bloodstone
Temple after the death of their leader. In a macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the hunters are thrust into a deadly competition for a powerful relic, which will bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.
Directed by Michael
Giacchino – better known as the composer of film scores like Up and the Marvel Spider-Man movies – it stars Gael García Bernal as the titular werewolf, Jack Russell, and Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone.
Eagle-eyed fans will have
spotted another newcomer to Marvel’s live-action pantheon of characters – the humanoid swamp monster Man-Thing – who appears briefly in the Werewolf by Night trailer.
If you’re keeping track, this means that the Marvel Cinematic Universe now has witches (Wanda Vision); vampires (as mentioned in Loki, and the upcoming Blade film), mummies and ancient Egyptian curses (Moon Knight); and zombies (What If…?). The only classic horror monster who’s missing is Frankenstein, but the good news is that Marvel Comics has their own version of the misunderstood monster, who’s tussled with everyone from Dracula to Thor to Kang the Conqueror.
In the comics, he’s presently a member of one-time S.H.I.E.L.D agent Phil Coulson’s Howling Commandos.
