CELEBRATING GANDHI
Kids in Chennai recently dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi for an event called Gandhi Jayan to commemorate the 153rd anniversary of his birth, 2 October.
Every year children dress up in replicas of his signature glasses, loincloth and shawl and carry a walking stick to resemble the “father of the nation”.
Gandhi, who also spent time as a lawyer in South Africa, dedicated his life to helping India gain independence from the British Empire in a non-violent way and was a global force for peace and unity.
He died in 1948 aged 78.
