THERE’S nothing quite like the smell of repugnant desire – and fans of Elon Musk certainly agree. Just hours after launching a new scent called Burnt Hair perfume, the Space X Founder claimed he’d sold 10 000 bottles, adding $2 million (R36 million) to his bank balance.

“With a name like mine, getting into the fragrance business was inevitable – why did I even fight it for so long,” he tweeted.

Last month the billionaire announced his company, Boring Co, would launch a scent for men that will help them stand out in a crowd and now he’s peddling the perfume.

It’s not the first time the Tesla boss has launched a product based on a joke.

In 2018 he sold 20 000 flamethrowers to fund “tunneling beneath roads to one day alleviate traffic congestion”.

He also sold “short shorts” satin underwear, priced at $69 000 (R1,2m) as a joke, which sold out in minutes.
