LIGHTS UP FOR NATIONAL DAY
Cities across China were lit up earlier this month in celebration of the country’s National Day.
Several streets and traditional buildings were illuminated at night to mark the anniversary of the formation of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
The lights symbolise people’s best wishes for one another, for the country and to wish one another good luck. In 1999 the government decided to give its citizens a sevenday holiday called Golden Week to extend the festivities.
People often use this time to visit relatives and to travel.
