MAJOR UPSET

John Major, who was UK prime minister from 1990 to 1997, is played by Jonny Lee Miller, and is seen conspiring with Prince Charles to persuade the queen to abdicate. Major (now 79) apparently hit the roof when he heard about the scene and his spokesperson issued a statement saying the meeting never took place. “It’s damaging and malicious fiction and a barrel-load of nonsense.” A royal insider told the Daily Mail all the one-on-one conversations onscreen are “utter fiction”. “Scenes have been entirely created for dramatic and commercial purposes with little regard for the truth.” A close friend of the late queen expressed her outrage to the UK’s Sunday Times. “I’m horrified at how Netflix is vilifying the royal family – it’s as if they trying to destroy them. It would have destroyed the queen.”
