ELON MUSK’S NEW PURCHASE

-

Insatiable, gluttonous, eccentric Elon Musk is a man who lacks empathy (YOU, 10 November) yet he’s an extraordinary visionary.

Among other money-making projects, he’s taking us to Mars, he has given us PayPal, he has reinvented the future of motoring by giving us Tesla.

He’s the richest man on Earth and now he’s bought Twitter, firing everyone who didn’t fit in with his vision.

A number of other billionaires have made an effort to leave a lasting legacy once they’re gone, by creating foundations to aid the poorest of the poor. Musk has yet to reveal if he indeed has a compassionate side.

He’s a complex man, who lives life on his terms, shunning convention and displaying outlandish behaviour in both his business and personal life. He’s ruthless when it comes to doing business, as was displayed when he culled many Twitter staffers, without blinking.

If this is what being a billionaire means he can shove all his billions up his gold-plated derrière. The boy from Pretoria needs to meditate on the folly of his ways.

▪ I’ve always been a big Twitter fan, even though there are a lot of haters and dodgy content on the platform. I get so much pleasure from it, following people I admire as well as those I find funny, stimulating and inspirational. And what would life be without those adorable cat videos.

I admit I cheered when Donald Trump was banned from the site. There’s no place for poisonous people like him there. His only purpose is to promote himself and his divisive, despicable agenda.

The question is will he be allowed back now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter? If he is, lots of stellar people are threatening to leave. I hope Twitter doesn’t revert to being a free-for-all circus where hate-speech festers and thrives.
