BEATENBERG RETURN TO SA!

- – NICI DE WET

They’re one of the most celebrated bands to emerge from South Africa in the past decade – and after a three-year break they’re now returning home to give fans a taste of their new musical offering. Beatenberg will be performing at Constitution Hill in Jozi for one concert only on 3 December as part of a world tour to celebrate the release of their new EP, On the Way to Beatenberg.

“We’re all really glad to be playing in South Africa again,” says frontman MATTHEW FIELD. “Even though we’re increasingly working and spending time in other countries, it remains a hugely important place for us. It’ll likely be an emotional experience and I hope it brings the best out of us. See you soon, South Africa!”

Matthew and bassist ROSS DORKIN have been based in London for the past two years while drummer ROBIN BRINK was in Berlin. During that time Matthew released his solo project under the stage name M Field.

In September the band reunited to support acclaimed British pop star George Ezra on his UK tour. Their latest single is called White Shadow and features local songbird Msaki. “We decided to reach out to her since we love her music and sensibilities.”

The band broke out in 2013 with their smash hit Pluto (Remember You) which set the country’s national airplay record, spending 17 weeks on radio charts.

That went on to win four gongs at the Samas, including album of the year for their debut record, The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg, as well as group of the year. Tickets are on sale at Hero Ticket.
