INCREASE IN CHOLERA OUTBREAKS
A record number of cholera outbreaks is being reported around the globe. This is probably as a result of droughts, floods and war as people are displaced from their homes and don’t have access to adequate bathroom facilities.
When water becomes contaminated, cholera bacteria spreads through it at lightning speed. If the disease isn’t treated, it can cause death from dehydration as people suffer chronic vomiting and diarrhea. Vaccinations against cholera can help but, because there’s such a high demand for vaccinations, the World Health Organization has recommended that people get only one dose instead of two as was the rule before. This means people will be protected against cholera for a shorter period of time than they would be if they received two doses of the jab.
