She’s one of the highest-paid actresses in the world, but when JULIA ROBERTS was born, historic civil rights activists Martin Luther King Jnr and his wife, Loretta, stepped in to help her parents pay their hospital bill.

Julia (55) told talk-show host Gayle King about the two families’ connection in a recent interview. In the 60s, Walter and Betty Roberts ran an integrated theatre school in Atlanta, which the King children attended. “And so they all just became friends and they helped us out of a jam,” she said.
