YOU (South Africa)

JASON GOLIATH

-

We caught up with comedian Jason Goliath who will be performing his first one-man show since Covid-19, Dala What You Must, this month at the Theatre on the Square in Sandton, Johannesburg.

WHAT MOST EXCITES YOU ABOUT THIS NEW SHOW? Finally being back on stage and reconnecting with my fans. This time I have a message I can’t wait to share with them.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST NERVOUS ABOUT GOING BACK ON STAGE POST-PANDEMIC? Rust! With all the comedy clubs in the country having to close down due to Covid there haven’t been many opportunities to “train” and test material so I’m scared of feeling rusty!

WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST LOCKDOWN LIFE LESSON? Acceptance is the road to gratitude and gratitude is the road to happiness. That no one is coming to save you. Nobody goes to bed thinking about your debit orders because everyone has their own stress to worry about. I also learnt what and who is important.

LIFE CAN BE TOUGH AND ADULTING OFTEN FEELS LIKE A TRAP. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 TIPS TO SURVIVING THE GROWN-UP YEARS? 1 Keep it moving even when you have no idea what to do or expect. 2 Run your own race at your own pace (know what your dreams are so you don’t end up chasing someone else’s). 3 As long as you’re willing to work a little harder than you want to play, you’ll be fine forever.

IN A WORLD WHERE AFFIRMATIONS HAVE BECOME A THING, WHAT ARE YOUR “DALA DECLARATIONS”? 1 It is what it is (acceptance). 2 Dala what you must (do what you have to do to get where you’re dreaming of). 3 I must not complain about the things I prayed for.
